Our mission is to provide warm, inclusive and empowering spaces to trans, two-spirit, nonbinary questioning, and other gender-diverse folks – as well as our friends and family – who share an interest in all things anthropomorphic (or “furry”), in order to celebrate each other and enjoy our common interests.
This Code of Conduct is our way to provide a safe and enjoyable “furry-friendly” environment for everyone. It also must ensure we retain a positive reputation and relationship with our venue, the furry community, and the general public.
Reminder: The convention should be a safe and comfortable space for everyone to socialize and have fun. Do not hesitate to contact a member of Genderverse Furries staff to report any incidents or persons that make you feel unsafe.
In case of any apparent conflict between the provisions of this Code of Conduct and any other policy enacted by Genderverse Anthropomorphic Events, this Code of Conduct takes precedence.
Should you have any questions, please e-mail info@genderversefurries.com for further information.
Full Code of Conduct Follows
1. Guiding Principle
Anything that harms or interferes with our event’s operations or reputation is not permitted.
Our Code of Conduct is not an exhaustive list of dos and don’ts. Any behaviour that interferes with the operations of Genderverse Furries events or harms its reputation is strictly forbidden. This includes, but is not limited to, its relations and reputation with our community, municipality, venue, or the public. This also includes interfering with or disregarding instructions or guidance from Genderverse Furries staff during the performance of their duties.
Impersonation of authority figures or officials, such as convention staff, hotel staff, members of the armed forces, and/or emergency personnel is prohibited.
2. Stamps and Admission
Stamps must, without exception, be worn where visible at all times while in event space.
2.1 Worn and visible at all times: Your stamp is the only acceptable proof of admission into events space. Our events are private, so all attendees must wear their stamp where readily visible to enter and to remain in the event space. Anyone that is not wearing a stamp and cannot otherwise provide proof of registration will be asked to leave the event space, unless accompanied by Genderverse Furries staff or venue staff.
2.2 Photo ID: You must present valid Government-issued photo identification that proves your identity and age in order to receive your stamp. This can include a driver’s license, photo ID card, or passport.
2.3 Minors: Minors are event attendees who are between the ages of 13 and 17 by the event start date. Please note that minors age 12 and under by the event start date are not permitted to attend Genderverse Furries events. All minors attending the event must have the consent of their parent or legal guardian to attend the con. In addition, any minor that is between 13 and 15 years old MUST be accompanied at all times by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized responsible adult while in event space.
3. Age-related Content
Genderverse Furries activities and event space are 13+ safer spaces, or PG-13.
Parental guidance is required for attendees between the ages of 13 and 15 as some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.
3.1 Attendees’ dress, costume, and conduct must be 13+ age-appropriate at all times, but especially in any area visible to non-attendees or the public. A good general guideline is “would the attire/behaviour be inappropriate in a public park?”
3.2 Imagery or messages that promote or spread hate are always forbidden.
3.3 Should an attendee be uncertain of the appropriateness of a behaviour or piece of attire, they should seek approval ahead of time via email at info@genderversefurries.com or, during events, contact a staff member.
3.4 Any display of item(s) including artwork and merchandise must be 13+ age-appropriate (such as stickers completely obscuring any explicit portion of artwork).
3.5 Exception requests may be submitted to info@genderversefurries.com in advance.
4. Alcohol and Cannabis
NO consumption of alcohol or cannabis EXCEPT where permitted (hotel bar/restaurant and private hotel rooms); alcohol and cannabis are not permitted in event space.
4.1 Alcohol or cannabis must only be in the possession of, and only be consumed by, persons of legal drinking age (19 or older in Ontario), and only when served by a venue bartender/waiter and consumed within that venue’s licensed areas (in the case of alcohol) if applicable; or when consumed in the privacy of your hotel room. No intoxicating substances of any sort are allowed in event spaces. Please also see the section on Smoking, e-cigarette and vaping.
4.2 Alcohol and cannabis are not served or permitted in event spaces.
4.3 Alcoholic beverages and cannabis are permitted only to persons 19 years of age and older by Ontario law. Anyone who provides/serves alcohol or cannabis to a minor and any person under the age of 19 who consumes alcohol or cannabis is breaking the law and may have their attendance privileges permanently revoked and/or be reported to the police.
4.4 The sole exception to (1) is with prior written authorization from the Genderverse Furries Board of Directors for special circumstances.
4.5 Please enjoy alcohol and cannabis responsibly. While we are all here to have fun, any individual who is intoxicated to the point where they pose a risk to themselves or others will be asked to leave, either temporarily or permanently, at staff discretion.
5. Smoking, e-cigarette and vaping
In accordance with venue policy, smoking (all kinds), e-cigarette and vape use is prohibited in any hotel room, venue, or balcony.
5.1 Smoking, e-cigarettes, and vaping are governed by provincial and municipal laws in addition to the venue’s own policies. You may not smoke or vape within the hotel, any hotel rooms, balconies, or close to entrances to the building.
5.2 Attendees are further cautioned that smoking or vaping in hotel rooms is not only against the law, the hotel also reserves the right to charge the renter the full cost of carpet/upholstery cleaning.

6.2.2 Vandalism of, damage to, or destruction of hotel/venue property may result in severe consequences.
7. Props, weapons and related items
No real weapons, or weapons that appear real.
Important: Any prop that could be mistaken for an actual weapon, even to a casual observer, at a quick glance, and from a distance, must first be inspected and approved by Genderverse Furries Staff.

Consent is absolute and can be revoked at any time — “No means no”.
8.1 Behaviour towards another individual or group that is generally considered unacceptable will not be tolerated. This includes, but not limited to intimidation; threats; unwelcome contact; or stalking. If someone has stated they no longer wish to interact with you, stop immediately.
8.2 Attendees are encouraged to immediately report any such incident to a Genderverse Furries Staff member. Genderverse Furries wants to ensure your safety. This is our highest priority.
8.3 Genderverse Furries events are gathering places where people can meet and share common interests. Behaviour that is willfully disruptive and/or harmful will not be tolerated. This includes verbal, physical or emotional aggression towards someone who is making a reasonable request regarding respecting their identity.
8.4 Costume does not equal consent.
8.4.1 When wearing a fursuit or costume, vision and hearing can be significantly impaired. Please ensure you get the attention of the person in costume to gain their consent BEFORE you interact with them.
8.4.2 Be respectful. Do NOT physically engage individuals in costume without consent; This includes behavior such as hugging; lifting; tackling/fur-piling; or pulling their tails.
8.4.3 The emotional or physical states of an individual in costume are not openly visible to others. Ailments or personal concerns can make some interaction unpleasant or unwanted for some persons in costume. Respect their expressed limits and give them space.

This is defined as a statement (including the use of slurs), action, or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group. Everyone is responsible for taking accountability for unintentional or intentional harm they have caused which has been brought to their attention. Impact is greater than intent.
9.6 Keep in mind others’ mental health needs at all times.
Aim to accommodate mental, sensory, physical, and other accessibility needs whenever possible. Avoid using excessive profanity, slurs or discriminatory language, discussing innuendos or erotic material, graphic violence, casual illicit drug use, revealing another person’s name, location, or identifying information without their consent, “outing” another person, disrespecting, harassing, or abusing the audience or the staff. 11.4.2 to be with their service animal at all times.
11.4.3 to make reasonable efforts to ensure the wellbeing of their service animal, such as being attentive to signs of distress indicating the service animal may be overwhelmed.
